Muscat: To celebrate the Sultanate’s 52nd National Day and to bring students closer to nature, Oman’s O! Millionaire green initiative Oasis Park has launched a planting programme as part of which it will set up school gardens.
This initiative supports the goals of the O! Millionaire concept which intends to create Oasis Park, the region’s largest green park. Participants buy a green certificate to support Oasis Park’s tree-planting programme. Over the years, Oasis Park will be home to nearly 60 million different trees and will significantly contribute to CO2 emission reduction.
A spokesperson for O! Millionaire said, “We wanted to mark the 52nd National Day in a unique way and affiliation with the objectives of the Oasis Park project. Therefore, to underline our green efforts and to preserve Oman’s rich environmental resources we decided to organise a planting programme by contributing a total of 104 plants to two schools (i.e 52 for each) in the Muscat Governorate. Planting is a life-long commitment that can provide a sense of accomplishment. The activity will include a brief about the importance of trees and a collaborative planting session between the students and O! Millionaire team.”
Each plant carries the name of the student who planted the sapling from the two chosen schools namely Bunaat Al Mustaqbal and French International School Muscat.
By conducting nature activities in schools O! Millionaire promotes environmental awareness among the younger generation. This planting programme covers aspects of environment and conservation that supports the curriculum. It educates young minds about the importance of afforestation in reducing global warming. The positive impact on other environmental factors like soil preservation, water conservation, improved air quality, climate amelioration, and saving wildlife were highlighted.
The saplings that have been planted are rehaan (tulsi), vinca, reullia (Mexican Petunia), and lemongrass.
About O! Millionaire
The environmental initiative intends to create the Middle East’s largest green park – the Oasis Park in Oman which aims to be a beacon of hope for a sustainable future. Eco-friendly initiative O! Millionaire aspires to fulfill the goal of the preservation of Oman’s natural environment through an efficient, socially responsible, and ethical tree-planting programme.
About Oasis Park
Oasis Park in the Ash-Sharqiyah region of Oman, with a planned total area of 1,200 square kilometers that will be created as a sustainable, self-contained ecosystem. The planned area will provide space for up to 60 million different trees, which will be planted over the next years and decades and thus contribute significantly to the goal of reducing global CO2 emissions. According to calculations, this unique green lung of Oman will be able to bind up to 1.4 million tons of CO2 from the atmosphere each year. This is roughly equivalent to the amount that would be released if every single person in both Europe and the entire MENA region were to release over 200 commercially available balloons filled with emissions. The first phase of the project will designate 18 square kilometers, which will include forestry, the integration of initial agricultural projects, and the necessary infrastructure.
About the Green Certificate
A green certificate, which participants purchase to support O! Millionaire’s tree-planting program that forms the basis of Oasis Park, entitles them to an entry for a draw boasting prize valued over OMR 6,400,000. The certificate provides participants two chances to win – one through a raffle that pays out one winner OMR 10,000 every week and another through a draw that can bring them prizes valued at more than OMR 6,400,000. The draw is held every Thursday at 8 pm, and should no grand prize winner be selected in a draw, a sum of OMR 50,000 will be added to the prize sum every week.
The brains behind this concept have made it simple for everyone to be a part of this movement, with more information about the initiative available at http://www.omillionaire.com. Green Certificates worth OMR 2.5 are available for purchase through the website.
